In the period between 6 and 7 years of age, the first permanent tooth (first molar) erupts, i.e. the sixth tooth. Fissure sealing is a procedure performed to prevent cavities from developing on posterior teeth and cannot be performed on cavities-infected teeth.[/top_dentist_page_heading][vc_custom_heading text=”Fissure Sealing Prevents Cavities” font_container=”tag:h3|font_size:36px|text_align:left|line_height:1.25″ use_theme_fonts=”yes” el_class=”color-primary” css=”.vc_custom_1537446469030{margin-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1537446478665{margin-bottom: 35px !important;}”]Molars, and in some cases premolars, are most frequently sealed. Prior to one’s undergoing fissure sealing, a dentist must carry out a dental checkup in order to establish whether the teeth that are to be sealed are completely healthy. Teeth have numerous pits and fissures, which comprise the so-called fissure system. Some of those fissures are of such dimensions that toothbrush fibers simply cannot penetrate deep enough to reach them. As a result, such places are more cavities-prone, since bacteria incessantly build up. Fissure sealing is the procedure that prevents this problem from occurring. Some estimations show that fissure sealing halves the risk of developing cavities.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2064″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_custom_heading text=”Fissure Sealing Procedure” font_container=”tag:h3|font_size:36px|text_align:left|line_height:1.25″ use_theme_fonts=”yes” el_class=”color-primary” css=”.vc_custom_1537446530100{margin-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1537446535916{margin-bottom: 35px !important;}”]The very procedure of fissure sealing is absolutely pain-free and does not require hard tooth tissue to be removed. No anesthesia is needed for sealing. The teeth are first thoroughly cleaned in order to remove plaque and food debris. Then, the acid that enables improved dental sealant retention is applied to the biting surface. A liquid sealant, which owing to its physical characteristics easily fills fissures, pits, and grooves, is applied to the treated tooth surface.

By applying photopolymerization lasting for only a couple of seconds, the sealant changes from a liquid to solid state, and it simultaneously adheres to the tooth surface. After fissure sealing is complete, food and drinks can be consumed immediately. In a very short period of time, chewing will make the sealant become smooth and no difference in feeling compared to the previous state will exist anymore. Fissures can last for longer than five years, but regular dental checkups are recommended in order to monitor the condition thereof.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”When is the fissure sealing applied?” font_container=”tag:h3|font_size:36px|text_align:left|line_height:1.25″ use_theme_fonts=”yes” el_class=”color-primary” css=”.vc_custom_1537446544661{margin-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1537446581764{margin-bottom: 35px !important;}”]Fissure sealing is applied only in the period of permanent dentition, i.e. when adult teeth have erupted. This preventive measure prevents the accumulation of dental plaque in deep pits on the biting surface of the tooth from occurring.

The sealing procedure has been applied since the beginning of the 20th century, and materials used as composite resins have changed from decade to decade.
